Aparna Nancherla

Aparna Nancherla has an intimidating name, but don't be scared! In fact, she's quite approachable
onstage, from a heckler's perspective. She enjoys seeing the world through awkward contact lenses. Her
maiden chuckle voyage took off in Washington D.C. (it's all about the Washingtons).
Her credits include 2007 NBC Stand Up for Diversity Finalist and 2008 College Tour, Last Comic
Standing 6 (2008, NYC Regional Showcase), the Bridgetown Comedy Festival (2009-2010), the 2009
Bentzen Ball, the 2010 Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, the 2010 Great American Comedy Festival,
Reader’s Digest and XM Radio.
Aparna's stand up goggles are dry and observational, and her act comes out sprinkled with absurdist wit
and a quasi-whimsical take on the world.
Personal life experiences come up frequently, ranging from visible appearance to people she almost
knows to close encounters at work to reasonably surreal ideas she has about the state of the world.
She likes mild controversy, but not onstage, and has been described as a unique voice by other people
who can vouch for me, and I for them. I tend to leave the audience more or less alone, but not with their
Comics Aparna has opened for include Paul F. Tompkins, Eugene Mirman, Maria Bamford, Kurt
Braunohler & Kristen Schaal, Christian Finnegan, Eddie Brill, and Myq Kaplan. She has also worked
with Todd Barry, Jen Kirkman, Reggie Watts, Leo Allen, Morgan Murphy, Matt Braunger, and David
Venues she has played include the Hollywood Improv, Gotham Comedy Club, Caroline's on Broadway,
the DC Improv, the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse, the Lincoln Lodge, and Mottley's Comedy Club, as
well as a myriad of colleges.
She also is an experienced improviser with training at both the Washington Improv Theater and the
Upright Citizen’s Brigade, and has acted in sketches, web shorts and series, and films.
P.S. Every time someone reads Aparna Nancherla's bio, a puppy gets its wings.
